CONVERSATION: Which dance style did this week’s song inspire you and your spouse to dance? Email and let us know at: DancingThroughMarriage@Hotmail.com
SONG: This week’s dance break song is I Can’t Live Without You by Bang Bang and Jason Dering
DANCE STYLE SUGGESTIONS: Our first choices for this song would be West Coast Swing. But remember, there’s no dance police here, so any form of dancing you know (even if it’s the hug-and-sway we all did at prom) is the best choice :)

How are you and your spouse celebrating Valentine's Day?
If you're still trying to figure that out, not to worry.
In this episode, I'm sharing how to plan a romantic date night for the two of you to enjoy from home.
So if you don't have plans yet, and you're looking for a special way to celebrate...
Or, if you already have plans to go out and you want to celebrate twice with an extra date night from home...
I've got you covered with five ideas that will make this Valentine's Day one to remember.
And the best part is that none of these ideas include buying each other gifts. Gifts can be added of course, but if you weren't planning on it, or you couldn't think of that perfect something for your special someone, pressure's off.
And hey, even if you don't celebrate Valentine's Day and feel like it's just a Hallmark holiday, this is an excuse to spend quality time with your spouse, have fun together, and celebrate your relationship.
Because, you know what?
You deserve it.
Alright, are ya ready to start planning?
Let's get to it!
Today, we're talking about Valentine's Day and how to plan a special date night for you and your spouse to enjoy from home.
But first, a quick story...
The year before Rich and I got married, we were in the middle of building our home.
On a side note, building a house and planning a wedding at the same time is not something I would recommend to any engaged couple, but hey, we were only 22 at the time and thought that we could take on the world.
We were doing a lot of the finish work ourselves, which meant that we were on a tight budget, and a tight schedule, trying to finish the house before our big day.
So when Valentine's Day rolled around, let's just say we had to get very creative.
To give you an idea…
We had spent all day working on the house, so when it was time for dinner, we decided to set a piece of plywood on two sawhorses in our unfinished kitchen for a makeshift table, lit a few candles, you know, to set the mood, and made a romantic evening out of it over two frozen meals.
We laughed at what we had come up with on a whim, celebrated what we had accomplished, and talked about what our future would look like in the house once it was finished.
Since then, Rich and I have been on some pretty fancy date nights, but that one, in our unfinished kitchen, we'll never forget.
The setting alone wasn't romantic at all, but what we did with it was, and I'm going to share the details with you.
Now, I'm not suggesting that you heat up frozen meals on February 14th, or eat on a makeshift table, but the point is that with a little creativity, you can make it a romantic night to remember from home.
And before we get started, I want to mention that the ideas I'm sharing with you can be as simple and inexpensive, or as elaborate and pricey as you'd like, depending on your budget and schedule.
You can use all of these ideas to make one big date night, or just a few to add to your evening.
Either way, make it meaningful in your own unique way and remind yourself that you and your spouse's relationship is worth celebrating.
Alright, let's get to it!
Valentine's Date Night Idea #1: Make A Special Meal For Two
Okay, we can't talk about Valentine's day plans without talking about what you and your spouse are planning to eat.
It's a staple for any quality date night, don't you think?
And no, I'm not talking about frozen meals, unless of course, that's the route you want to take.
I'm talking about sharing a special meal that you'll really enjoy.
You could always pick up take out, or have it delivered right to your home.
But if you want to DIY your dinner, you've got options.
You could...
Try a brand new recipe, to add an element of surprise to your meal
Recreate the meal you ordered on your very first dinner date to relive the moment
Or, make a recipe that's similar to your favorite meal at your favorite restaurant.
Either way, if you decide to cook at home, be sure to switch things up and do things differently than you normally would to make it feel special.
Whether you decide to try a brand new recipe, recreate your first dinner date, or make your favorite meal, take your time preparing the food, relax, and have fun following the recipe together as a couple.
And remember, your special meal can be as elaborate as including appetizers, specialty drinks, and desserts, or as simple as just the main course.
Alright, now for...
Valentine's Date Night Idea #2: Set The Mood With Music
One of the easiest ways to create a romantic ambience for your special evening is with music.
I'll be sharing more about this in idea #5, but for now, playing soft music will help set the mood and get the two of you channeling those romantic vibes.
You can play songs that you've already saved in Spotify, Apple Music, or your favorite music app. Or, playlists they've already created for you.
Alright, next up is...
Valentine's Date Night Idea #3: Dance The Night Away With Your Spouse
There are hundreds of ways to spend time with your spouse on Valentine's Day, but this has got to be one of the most romantic.
When you dance with your spouse, you're…
Connecting on a deeper, more intimate level.
Showing each other how much you care about each other, by sharing some of your most valuable assets, which are your time, attention, and love.
And, expressing your feelings for each other in a unique way that can only be done by dancing.
Not to mention, that it doesn't cost a dime.
Gifts are nice, but what's more romantic than spending the evening wrapped in the arms of the one you love?
Alright, the three ideas I've shared so far would make for a romantic Valentine's all on their own, but the following ideas will make it even sweeter…
Valentine's Date Night Idea #4: Create Conversation Starters
We've already talked about how to make your dinner plans special, with a special meal.
But adding good dinner conversation to the mix will spice things up even more.
But what do you and your spouse talk about when you know each other inside and out?
The two of you can either come up with your own topics of conversation if you already have something in mind, or you can google 'conversation starters for couples' online.
When you find your favorite questions and topics, write them down on index cards, or on your phone. Then reveal them to each other on Valentine's day.
This will make your dinner that much more fun and meaningful, because you'll be skipping the surface-level small talk and communicating and connecting on a deeper level.
Alright, last but not least...
Valentine's Date Night Idea #5: Make A Personalized Playlist
We've already talked about setting the mood with music in idea #2, and how you can play a playlist of songs from your favorite music app.
But what would really add to the romance is if you and your spouse each created playlists for each other.
This way, the music will be more personal and meaningful, because it will have been picked out by the two of you with your relationship in mind.
When putting together your playlists, think of songs that have meaning to you and your spouse, like…
A song that played on your first date
Your first dance song on your wedding day
Or, any songs that remind you of your relationship and how you feel about your spouse.
Sometimes the best way to express your emotions is with music, and playing songs that you've picked out specifically for each other will have you both feeling the love.
Alright, there you have it.
Five ideas for enjoying a romantic date night at home with your spouse.
So which one's will you be including this Valentine's day?
Will you…
Make a special meal together
Set the mood with romantic music
Dance the night away with your spouse
Create conversation starters to enjoy during dinner
Or, create personal playlists for each other?
However you choose to spend this Valentine's day, just remember, the details you plan will make your evening enjoyable. But the meaning behind those details is what will make it special.
Be sure to tune in next week, because now that your creative juices are flowing with ideas, I'll be helping you plan out your date night step-by-step so you're ready to celebrate a romantic Valentine's day with your spouse from home.
