How are you and your spouse holding up this holiday season?
If you’re feeling like you could use a little help getting into the spirit, we’ve got you covered with three ways we’re brightening up the holiday’s.
At the time of this episode, we're right in the thick of it.
And I want to know…
Are you feeling like "bring it on", because you're on top of things, with your gifts wrapped, and decorations up?
Or, are you feeling more like "whoa, let's slow things down" because you can't believe it's already here, and you're needing more time to get into the spirit?
If you answered yes to the first one and you're prepared, I'm sending you a virtual high five.
But, if you're relating more with the second scenario, and you feel like it should still be November, we get it.
In our home, we celebrate Christmas which is our favorite holiday.
We celebrate all month long with special traditions and fun festivities with the kids.
But this year feels different.
To give you an idea…
Every year, after we read the Elf On The Shelf, our little elf comes to visit.
But let's just say, that book has not been cracked open yet this year.
I'm not sure how we ended up here, or how it's so close to Christmas, but if you're in a similar boat, there's still time to turn things around.
In this episode, I'm sharing how Rich and I are making the most of the holidays when things are feeling off, and how we're planning on brightening up the season in a hurry, and how you can too.
3 Ways We’re Getting Into The Spirit This Holiday…
If you and your spouse celebrate Christmas, I think we can all agree that it's a pretty magical time…but sometimes it can be stressful too.
I mean, there's a lot to do, from shopping and decorating, to baking and wrapping.
I enjoy it all, but this year we were caught off guard.
All but two of us in our home (one of them being our dog) came down with a pretty nasty head cold.
We were down for the count.
It's kind of funny, because in the last episode, I shared details with you, from our 20th wedding anniversary and our romantic moment dancing on the beach at sunset.
And now, I'm sharing tales of cough syrup, Vicks-scented Kleenex and sickness.
If this isn't a real-life example of marriage, I don't know what is.
If you're going through one of these low moments (whether it's from sickness or some other life event) and it's stealing your holiday thunder, I'm going to share the 3 things we're going to do right away to get into the spirit in time for Christmas Day.
Because, hey, the Coburn family is down to the wire here, and running out of time.
So lets get to it...
1. We're Going To Put Up The Decorations Anyways
I know it might not seem worth it when we're only days away, but when we're sipping hot cocoa, in our pj's, watching Polar Express on Christmas Eve, we'll be glad we did.
But, let me be clear...
When I say we're decorating, we're not going all out.
I've accepted the fact that we're out of time and the full production isn't going to happen.
So we're just going to keep things simple, do what we can, and call it good.
2. We're Going On A Christmas Light Hunt
There's something about seeing other people's Christmas lights that gives me the warm-and-fuzzies.
I don't know if it's the fact that I appreciate people's participation, enjoy their creativity, or, just enjoy the beauty of it
But it gives me a sense of peace, togetherness and hope, especially when we pair it with singing along to Christmas tunes on the radio.
So the first chance we get, we'll be hopping in the car with the kids to take a drive, look at lights and singing our hearts out.
3. We're Going To Dance To One Christmas Song Everyday Until Christmas
Dancing while we were sick was out of the question.
We weren't feeling well enough and needed the rest.
But now that we're feeling better, I can't think of a better way to get into the Christmas spirit…
The music alone will do the trick, but when you and your spouse dance to it, you'll be:
Enjoying time away from the hustle and bustle to spend quality time together
Releasing the stress of the season
And, celebrating the holiday as it's intended to be celebrated.
We'll be sharing one Christmas song for you to dance to, each day from now until Christmas.
And we welcome you to join us.
You can follow along and listen to the songs on our Facebook page, here.
I'm sure we'll find other “Christmasey” things to do that we'll be sharing as well.
But what we're not going to focus on is the traditions we didn't get to, the decorations we didn't put up, or how the holidays are so much different this year.
We're just going to appreciate that we have each other, and that we're all happy and healthy, and we'll make the most of it.
Hey, if Ralphie and his family could turn Christmas around in A Christmas Story, I think we can too.
Have fun celebrating the season, and we'll see you again next week on the Dancing Through Marriage Podcast.
